I love to listen. You learn so much by just opening up your ears. I like hearing the idle chatter of my kids as they go about the business of being kids. I enjoy listening to my friends’ hilarious recountings of weekend plans gone wrong. I can identify every creak and squeak in our otherwise quietly disintegrating home. I generally like being attuned to my surroundings.
But I also like to talk. Even more than that, I like to engage. I appreciate the art of conversation which, quite honestly, I feel is disintegrating at the same rate as my chipped baseboards. So much of our communication these days happens through our fingertips. In fact, ask just about anyone and they’ll tell you they prefer texting over a phone chat, let alone a face-to-face heart-to-heart. And while my affinity for opening my big mouth (or its keyboard equivalent) has gotten me in trouble more than once, I still like talking IN REAL LIFE.
When I first heard about The Cocolily Social I did what I could to free up my Saturday to be able to attend this event. Set against the backdrop of Canada’s majestic Niagara Falls, this is not your typical conference. The Cocolily Social was designed as a one-day creative event for the female entrepreneur (sorry, gentlemen).
What I love about the set-up of The Cocolily Social is that it encourages conversation in small, intimate sessions — over tea and sweets. That’s right sweets! Whether for personal or professional development, intimate tea talks, fabulous workshops and a host of talented speakers are available throughout the day to inspire and encourage dynamic discussions so that you get the most out of this experience.
If I’m being honest, with nearly two dozen Designers of Inspiration — among them one of my personal idols, Julie Cole, the co-founding vice-president of Mabel’s Labels — on topics ranging from finding professional happiness to building your personal brand to making the leap from corporate to entrepreneurship — I knew I wanted to be there. I asked Julie, who is a regular on the speaking circuit, what it was that prompted her to be involved, and she answered simply: “I like the focus, the location and other speakers. The trifecta.”
Registration is available UNTIL MAY 23rd with limited quanties. There are still tickets available for ‘The Classic’ package AND I HAVE A COUPON CODE! When you purchase the CLASSIC ticket, enter code DIARYSOCIAL at checkout to save 50%! And also, I need a roommate!
