Well, look who’s gone all ‘green smoothie reboot’! At least for the week. Truth be told, I am a big smoothie fan. In fact, I’m racking up the ‘frequent flyer’ miles for the number of times I’ve visited Booster Juice this summer. But going ‘green’ in my own kitchen, well, that’s just a whole new bag of spinach.
It’s one thing to order an almond-milk-based Mind Over Matcha chez Booster Juice and quite another to build your own coconut-water-based Rosemary’s Baby green smoothie in your own kitchen. I’ve attempted my own smoothie recipes in the past, which have turned out quite nicely, but there was no method to my madness.
Enter The Green Smoothie 7 Day Reboot
You may recall me talking about Dai Manuel’s Whole Life Fitness Manifesto and the role it has played in my fitness journey. Well, I’m still on that journey, although I consider it more of a lifestyle since it has become so ingrained in my day-to-day routine, and I’m still very much an active tribe member. Recently Dai, aka “Coach Moose”, and his wife, Christie, asked our Facebook group if we would be willing to provide feedback on Dai’s new ebook, The Green Smoothie 7 Day Reboot. A pile of us jumped on board; we are basically the perfect guinea pigs.
After receiving an advance, not-quite-ready-for-publishing copy, I admit I skipped forward to the seven straight-forward recipes, which are jam packed with nutrient-rich, green goodness. Some of the ingredients raised my eyebrows, but this is why I am not a recipe developer. I’d rather stick to the taste-testing. You guys, these smoothies taste pretty freaking good. And that colour! Any time I’ve ever tried to make my own green smoothie it always came out looking like sludge!
I won’t sit here and spout about how my skin feels great and my energy is through the roof and I’ve solved world peace because the truth is that I am still neglecting my sleep; therefore, any improvement, no matter how small, gets lost in the haze of exhaustion. That being said, even with lack of rest, I have noticed that I’m generally calmer even though my kids are no less crazy. Also, in terms of physical ‘side effects’, I have visited the loo with slightly increased frequency and happy to report all systems are functioning normally.
Smoothie Operator: Blend at Your Own Risk
Firstly, this is not a cleanse (although all those fibre-rich greens may trick your body into thinking so.) Nor is it a juicing diet (this girl’s gotta eat!) The goal of the seven days of greens is to supercharge the system, first thing in the morning (or after your workout — whatever suits you best), with antioxidants, minerals and essential vitamins in order to kick start the day. Drinking plenty of water to help flush the fibre through your system and maintaining a well-rounded diet throughout the day is key.
Secondly, I’m not here to engage in a debate over to green or not to green. I did my own bit of research after going back and actually reading Dai’s book because I was curious to see what other literature was out there. As with anything diet-health-fitness related, there are the supporters and there are the naysayers. Just remember that with any dietary adjustments, you do what works for you. And, so far, this green smoothie reboot is working for me.
Now, I don’t know if it was the end-of-summer drag or what, but leave it to Coach Moose to perfectly time the development of this fun and easy-to-read ebook that provides all the basics about the how-tos and the what-nots of green smoothies. For example, did you know that it is important to rotate your greens from day to day? Neither did I.

Rosemary's Baby - A Green Smoothie That Won't Hurt a Bit
Dai Manuel, creator of The Whole Life Fitness Manifesto and author of The Green Smoothie 7 Day Reboot, has developed seven tested and taste-approved green smoothies, chock full of antioxidants, minerals and essential vitamins, that will reboot your system and supercharge your body.
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 cup spinach tightly packed
- 1/2 avocado peeled
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup pineapple chunks fresh, frozen or canned
- 1 tbsp hemp hearts
- 1/2 sprig fresh rosemary stem removed
- 2-3 ice cubes
Place the ingredients in the order in which they appear into a sturdy blender. Blend until you achieve desired consistency. Pour into a glass or shaker and drink up!
This recipe was presented on Day 2 of the reboot and I found it quite pleasant despite me not being a big fan of avocado in liquid form. It came out super creamy and had a very appealing taste. I’m on Day 5 of the reboot now and so far my fave has been the Day 1 smoothie.
