That’s all it takes.
I’ve got the before-and-after photos to prove it. And, yes, I’m sharing them.
When I set out on my initial weight-loss journey — because that’s what it is: a journey; one that takes you through ups and downs, successes and setbacks both physically and emotionally — I’d set a goal. A pretty hefty one.
My goal back in February was to drop 42.5 lbs.
I hit the ground running and began making changes. And they were working.
But I was alone in my journey. Any accountability was to only myself which, let’s face it, can get a little boring. Also, there was no end-date in sight. I hadn’t set a goal date or event, just that one big number.
The Whole Life Fitness Manifesto
In July, however, having already shed close to 20 lbs and just as I felt I was about to plateau, I found my fitness tribe in the form of Dai Manuel and the Whole Life Fitness Manifesto team (#WLFManifesto). This was the spark I needed to re-ignite my fitness routine and take it to the next level.
There’s no going back.
I just completed Phases 1-3 of the 60-day Whole Life Fitness Manifesto with a big-ass smile on my face and I’m moving on to Phase 4 (which is to say, another 60-day cycle) and I’m hoping to
drag inspire some of you along for the ride! Seriously. Go register.
Why the #WLFManifesto Works
Dai Manuel is a fantastic virtual coach. He and his wife, Christie, are there to guide you throughout this entire process, providing weekly emails, detailed workouts, support and encouragement. And the Facebook group camaraderie is awesome! Fall off the wagon? Someone is there to pick you up. Celebrating a milestone? Everyone celebrates alongside you.
There is no cost, only your commitment. There is no equipment — all you need are sneakers and a mat. All fitness levels are not only welcome, but encouraged. Only 30 minutes a day.
There are no magic pills. No shakes. No bars or supplements. Just a (gasp!) healthy diet and lots and lots of water (and many, many trips to the bathroom.)
The Art of Visualization — Who’d Have Thunk It?
One of the most important steps before beginning the 60-day #WLFManifesto is the actual goal-setting and the accountability that comes with it since you are asked to post it for all to see. After that, stick your goal somewhere where you will see it every day. My first set of goals were on the fridge and my Phase 4 goals are on my office bulletin board. And also here.
I am officially down 31 lbs from my initial weight of 192.5 lbs back in February. (Also, yes, I realize that while this is a big achievement, I wouldn’t be in this position had I not put the weight on to begin with.) I’ve lost inches off my bust (much to my husband’s chagrin), waist, hips, thighs and even calves (I’ve never been so excited for tall-boot season!)
At the beginning of the #WLFManifesto, I weighed 171.5 lbs; at the end of the 60 days I weighed in at 161.5 lbs. Plus, the week before that, I ran the Toronto Night Race 5K in 32 minutes exactly!
It’s almost laughable that I hit my goals, on target, exactly. But I did it. I am now 11.5 lbs off my ultimate goal of shedding 42.5 lbs, a goal that no longer seems so crazy and daunting.
Before and After
Swallowing my pride a little here, folks. These aren’t your ‘typical’ before-and-after shots. No fancy lighting or spray tan. Photos completely un-retouched. And the belly? Well, despite releasing over 30 lbs, it’s still soft which is why I wanted to show what a difference it makes between standing with a relaxed posture versus a straight-backed posture.
Reaping the Rewards
Friends and colleagues have noticed the change in me. My kids clock my workouts, watching and waving through the front window. My husband tells me every day how proud he is and compliments me daily. In fact, seeing my results has inspired him to start following the #WLFManifesto daily workouts.
The ONE drawback? Having to shop for a new wardrobe. (*Now accepting Blissdom Canada wardrobe sponsorships.) 😉
