New Year: fresh start, the evolution of #fit40s and birthday champagne, please.

Happy New Year! Have you made your resolutions yet? No? Neither have I. These days I’m a little less of a ‘resolutions’ person and more of a ‘goals, commitments and champagne’ person.

It's a new year! Time for a fresh start, the evolution of the #fit40s journey and champagne, please! Erica dishes on not-resolutions and Mimosas over at http://diaryofadomesticdiva.com.

Po-tay-toe, po-tah-toe.

New Year’s Resolutions vs Goals

I say this because in my experience, resolutions — much like giving up chocolate for Lent at Easter — tend to fall by the wayside whereas goals, and the commitments set in place to achieve them, have staying power. The proof is in the chocolate avocado chia pudding.

Kidding. (Although it is a thing.)

The proof is actually in the pics.

MY EYES! (Sorry, I guess I should have given you more warning.) Yes, here I am, in all my work-in-progress glory. Because that’s what it is: a work in progress. I kind of (but not really) wish I had a before before pic of me back in January/February 2015 but then I might cry.

Wow! Check out this transformation! After two 60-day phases of Dai Manuel's Whole Life Fitness Manifesto, this blogger and mom of four had notable results. Read more about her journey at http://diaryofadomesticdiva.com. #wlfmanifesto #fit40s

#fit40s, indeed! There’s no going back now. Full steam ahead in 2016!

I’m clearly gung-ho about my health and fitness, probably due to the fact that I’m nearly FORTY POUNDS lighter than I was at this time last year and giving whole new meaning to the term #fit40s! I’m finally back into a size 8 comfortably — a size I haven’t been since my university days. Also, I have no boobs so there are negatives. Ha!

I will continue to sing the praises of Dai Manuel’s Whole Life Fitness Manifesto and the WLFM tribe for helping me stay the course. Over the month of December the lot of us embarked on the #netzerogain challenge which had but one sole purpose: to not gain weight! With all the food and revelry of the holidays, this was no small feat, but many of us met the challenge head-on and we are pumped to begin the next phase — phase 5 — of the Whole Life Fitness Manifesto.

The next 28-day phase of Dai Manuel’s WLFM begins soon and it’s not too late to register!

My Fitness Goals

In the next month, I am committed to hitting my goal weight of 150lbs, getting an average of seven hours of sleep per night and doing three chin-ups by the end of phase 5. Yes, three freakin’ chin-ups. I’m currently at one.

On Writing, Family and Fun

As a writer/blogger, I am very excited at some upcoming collaborations and will continue to work on expanding my social reach and cultivating my online presence. I love what I do but I really want to reach a broader audience. This is the part where YOU can throw a girl a bone. If you like what I write I would love for you to share it. If you want to read more on a particular topic, please leave me a comment. I love comments. They’re like little bloggy love notes. Plus sometimes I get that writer’s block thing so any ideas that will kick start a dry spell are welcome.

My Writing Goals

In the next month I am committed to writing at least one new post weekly. I’m still coming out of the holiday fog so I’m not committing to more than that. I also will prepare a blogging calendar to keep me focused into the coming months.

I had some intensely long days (and nights) last fall trying to keep up with blogging and Periscope challenges. Not only did I begin to burn out, but my husband and kids felt the effects of my sleep-deprived absence. I want to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

My family is intensely important to me and spending time with my favourite people is like food for the soul so I plan to do a lot more of it. We love board games and movies and it’s crazy the amount of play time I’ve missed with my kids. The irony of the situation is not lost on me.

My Family Goals

I am committed to playing a game or watching a movie with my kids, either together as a family or individually, every weekend. I will even pop the popcorn fresh. My husband also proposed we commit to our own game night at least once a month. There was a time I was Scrabble Champion so we may need to dust off those tiles!

With work and family responsibilities I also believe it’s important to have fun outside of those responsibilities. Balance is key to this mama’s happiness. Smiles, hugs and kisses, kind words, belly laughs and deep breaths are rejuvenating.

Fun for me is as simple as going out for a walk to Starbucks. Fun is also a movie or coffee date with my bestie, a trip to the zoo, getting my nails done, reading a book, watching Netflix in bed with a cup of tea, colouring, shopping, eating cake, playing Cards Against Humanity, cranking the tunes and air-drumming to Phil Collins’ solo in In the Air Tonight, and sipping champagne (because bubbles make everything more fun!)

My Fun Goals

I commit to a daily fun moment for me. Today I will go for a walk AND I will eat cake AND I will sip champagne. Because it’s my birthday and these are things one does on one’s birthday.

So, have you committed any goals to paper yet? Have you shared them? I invite you to leave a goal in the comments below and promise to cheer you on!
