I’m Ranting on Missing Files & Slow Wifi

Warning: Ranting in Progress

Alright, so this month I committed to participating in a blogging challenge. This is something I did last October except I totally burned out and then went back to having all kinds of ideas but never actually writing them down. So far I’m on track, though my daily posts are coming out sometime around midnight. BUT, I’m writing.

When you're a blogger, ease of access to one's files and having wi-fi that works are musts. Imagine when this perfect system breaks down? It ain't pretty. http://diaryofadomesticdiva.com

Danger: Slow Moving Files

Tonight I began writing about patience but then I scratched that idea. Then, while searching for photo ideas, I came across a video of my cat, Bailey. So, I thought: cat video! Except SLOW COMPUTER AND INTERNET HELL. So instead, I’m ranting.

Oh. My. Good. Lord.

Here’s the thing, when blogging — or writing of any kind — is your livelihood (or at least that’s what you’re striving to achieve), and your workflow is constantly interrupted with files gone missing or wifi that’s slower than 1989 dial-up, well, it kind of makes you want to lose your everloving shit.

You, guys, I love my Macbook Pro but I am SO OVER how it stores and archives files and photos. I will either have a dozen copies of a single image saved in eight fucking places, or I’ll think I have a backup somewhere, delete files — y’know, to clean out storage space — and then suddenly they’re GONE.

What. The. FUZZZZ????

Honey, Where Are My Fiiiiiiiles?

When I got my Mac I convinced my husband I needed the BIG storage. I’m now operating pretty much at full capacity and that is WITH Dropbox, OneDrive (both of which I just upgraded to larger storage), three Google Drives AND a 1TB external hard drive. Except I don’t know where anything is!!

Just moments ago I disconnected Dropbox from my Mac because the whole point of the service is to use it as extra external storage. Did you know when you connect it to your PC it uses up your PC’s hard drive memory?? What’s the fucking use in that? That was 10GBs right there. I was about to do the same thing with one of my Google Drives except then it flashed the message that in so disconnecting, the photos would actually REMAIN on my hard drive. WHAT?! Again, I ask: What’s the use in that??

Warning: Large Load

Even now, as I sit here typing, I uploaded the featured image to my post. Want to know what appeared on my screen? This:

What the hell is happening here?

And that was after an inordinately long five minutes of downloading, uploading and adding the media to the page. Is it any wonder I’m ranting? Oh, and THEN, I decided to preview my post to this point. Want to know what I saw? This:

When you're a blogger, ease of access to one's files and having wi-fi that works are musts. Imagine when this perfect system breaks down? It ain't pretty. http://diaryofadomesticdiva.com

Yep. A screenshot of my post preview PRIOR to posting. Where’s the image???

There is no amount of deep breathing that can quell the urge to take a hammer to my laptop right now if it means ending the misery. The thing is, I don’t even know what to blame? Is it a storage issue? Is it a network server problem? Is it that our internet provider is trying to bleed us dry? I mean, we’ve already done all the upgrades. Our house is not that big, folks. Not to mention the modem is about ten feet away from my desk so, short of sitting on it, how much closer does it need to be??

I’m tired of upgrading storage. I’m SO OVER all the time wasted searching for files. I don’t WANT to buy another $400 router to ‘extend’ the wireless signal in my house. I don’t have the energy to go through the pain-in-the-ass that is switching services in the hopes of getting something better or even fighting with my current company to get results.

Clearly I’ve got it all wrong.
