Are you a romance die-hard? Or do you wish romance would die, hard?

I’m not exactly a romance die-hard, but in the interest of ‘keepin’ it real’, and now that the glitter dust has settled, I have to admit I had a great Valentine’s weekend last…well…weekend. The fact that Family Day was attached on the Monday made it gloriously relaxing. And even though I had to go to work on the Saturday, as a family, we had plenty of down time and, as a couple, my husband and I did the silly, sweet, mushy, Valentine’s stuff.

I know, I know. Ewww…

Truth be told, I almost can’t believe it all went so smoothly. Trust me when I tell you that not all the feel-good holidays have left us with the warm and fuzzies. Somehow, though, the stars aligned and we were cliché-ing all over the damned place. Amazing dinner, beautiful roses, champagne, chocolate.

Ugh. I know.

And as if that weren’t enough: the movie. Oh, yes, the cutesie movie. Mamma Mia. You know nothing spells romance like googling the words to the songs and belting out show tunes throughout an entire chick flick. Still, my husband was unfazed. Because he knows I love ABBA. And he loves me. Ergo, he loves ABBA.

It’s all in the math, people.

Nothing spells 'Romance' like singing at the top of your lungs throughout an entire movie.

Nothing spells ‘Romance’ like singing at the top of your lungs throughout an entire movie.

We could have gone with something emotionally draining, like Titanic, or complicated, like Her or off-the-wall-funny, like Bridesmaids. Sometimes, though, it’s about the simple things. It’s about lighthearted fun. It’s about remembering what it’s like to act like a lovestruck teenager. It’s about the right amount of sweetness and angst without the heavy drama of parenthood and responsibilities. It’s about music and singing and dancing. And sometimes it’s about holding the hand of the one you love, taking it all in. And not just because someone declared it Universal Love Day.

Netflix has a slew of options whether you’re a die-hard romantic or you wish romance would die. Hard. So, as another Valentine’s Day fades into the clearance aisles, whether you’re single and ready to mingle, madly in love or there’s trouble in paradise, grab some discount chocolate and check out what’s streaming #NowOnNetflixCA in all its sweet, sad and funny glory. Tell me: what’s your pick?

*In the interest of full disclosure: I would like to point out that I have been a hardcore Netflix fan — and written about it — since before it was considered cool. The only difference now is, as a member of Netflix Canada’s #StreamTeam, I receive some fun, free goodies in exchange for my candid monthly posts. Cool, eh?
