Full Disclosure: As a member of Netflix Canada’s #streamteam, the kids and I get to do a lot of fun stuff. And #NetflixHalloween is no exception.
This month, as All Hallows Eve draws near, Netflix challenged us to get creative: to have the kids dress up as their favourite Netflix program characters. This was no easy feat as my littlest guy began throwing out every Lego Chima/Ninjago/What-have-you idea.
And then I thought, why not recreate The Mr. Peabody & Sherman show? Interview-style and all? Thanks to Netflix Canada’s recent package of goodies, we had the perfect props: mic and talk show mugs.
What do you think? Totally cute, right? Mom’s vest, some glasses from our box of photo booth props and, of course, socks for ears and a red bow. It’s totally Mr. Peabody! Can you even? It’s pretty fun and kind of amazing what you can dig up for costume ideas when put to the test.
And while ‘Sherman’ ended up bailing on us, little Miss ‘Mr. Peabody’ was completely adorable while she interviewed her pirate guest — we’ll call him Captain Hook in honour of one of our fave shows, Once Upon a Time.
I’m a huge fan of imagination. And while we certainly indulge our kids’ enjoyment of screen time — in moderation — there is no substitute for play. When kids dress up, they get to step outside of themselves. As a parent it is a wonderful feeling to see that freedom and silliness emanate from my little people when they play pretend.
I’m happy to see that Netflix recognizes the need and the importance for children to step away from the screen and play. Is there a favourite Netflix program that inspires your kids to get creative and use their imagination?
